4Voices is a European project funded under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme. It explores Europe’s gendered history and examines how reflection on the past can contribute to democratic futures grounded in equality, the rule of law and human rights.
The overall objective of 4Voices is to strengthen human rights, democracy and the rule of law by revisiting Europe’s diverse past through a gender-sensitive perspective and by encouraging critical thinking about Europe’s future. In this way, the project seeks to contribute to rebuilding trust between citizens and democratic institutions.
The project is based on the understanding that Europe’s history is often told through institutions, leaders and major political milestones, while many lived experiences remain overlooked. This is especially true for experiences shaped by gender, care, migration, class and everyday life under authoritarian or transitional systems. By creating space for personal and intergenerational stories, 4Voices promotes a more inclusive reflection on memory, silence and democratic life.
4Voices is primarily intended for young people aged 18 to 30 from four European regions: Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, Southern Europe and Western Europe. The project places particular emphasis on young people because they are already shaping the present and will play a central role in shaping Europe’s future. Their participation enables the project to capture diverse perspectives and experiences from across the continent.
The project duration is from February 2025 to January 2027.
The project is coordinated by Volonteurope and implemented in partnership with WeWorld (Italy), the European Institute Foundation (Bulgaria), the Imago Mundi Association (Romania), and the Initiative for Development and Cooperation – IDC (Serbia).
