Video course 5 methods for informal education based on the transmission of values
As part of the WAVE II project, a video course was created that presents five informal, educational methods that combine values-based learning with physical and artistic expression.
These five disciplines serve as starting points to help young people discuss complex civic topics such as human dignity, equality, and the fight against discrimination.
The 5 Informal Educational Methods
These five disciplines serve as low-threshold entry points to help young people discuss complex civic topics like human dignity, equality, and anti-discrimination:

🎭 Improvisational Theater: Engaging youth in active roleplay and real-time situational scenarios. This helps build empathy, breaks down social barriers, and creates safe environments to navigate conflict resolution and diverse perspectives.

🎨 Portrait Drawing: Using visual art to explore individual identity, personal stories, and common human dignity. Participants learn to truly “see” one another, opening deep discussions about representation and inclusion.

📸 Photography: Giving youth a camera to capture their everyday environment through the lens of community values. It allows them to visually document what democracy, freedom, or structural barriers look like in their immediate surroundings.

🎵 Music: Utilizing rhythmic, lyrical, or instrumental expression to touch upon shared social themes. Music acts as a universal bridge for intercultural communication, letting young people express their vulnerabilities and strengths collectively.

⚽ Sports & Movement: Incorporating physical activity and active team-play elements. This teaches core democratic values in real time, such as strict adherence to fair play, collaborative team problem-solving, structural discipline, and mutual respect.
The WAVE II project focuses on empowering youth workers with creative, informal and artistic ways to engage young people – especially those from migrant and international backgrounds – in democracy education.
