Conference “Exchange of examples of good practice on methods of peaceful resolution of labor disputes”
In the Palace of Serbia, on July 8, 2022, we organized a conference dedicated to “Exchange of examples of good practice on methods of peaceful resolution of labor disputes”. The goal of the conference was to present the results of the Joint Efforts of Social Partners to increase the visibility of the institute for the peaceful resolution of labor disputes.
The conference was opened by Mirko Janic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, and the opening speech was given by Miodrag Nedeljković, Director of the IDC and Danilo Milic, Coordinator for Southeast Europe of the Olof Palma International Center, which financed this project.
In the first panel, the representatives of the project partners discussed the role of the institute for the peaceful resolution of labor disputes in the context of social dialogue, and then presented the main results of the project:
- Online course Peaceful resolution of labor disputes
- Study “Challenges of peaceful settlement of labor disputes in the Republic of Serbia”
- Cycle of workshops “Peaceful resolution of labor disputes in practice” through which more than 90 participants passed in 4 cities
- A lecture on the Swedish model of peaceful resolution of labor disputes attended by over 60 participants
In the second panel, the participants had the opportunity to see through examples of good practice regarding the peaceful resolution of labor disputes, from Italy, Spain and Albania. Together with their colleagues from these countries, they looked at the comparative practice of the possibility of its application in the legal framework of the Republic of Serbia, all with the aim of strengthening social dialogue and protecting the social and economic rights of citizens. The second panel was organized in cooperation with the international network SOLIDAR, within the project Achieving Social Europe for All, funded by the European Commission.
With this conference, another cycle of work on increasing the visibility of the Institute for Peaceful Resolution of Labor Disputes was completed. IDC, together with social partners, has been working for more than six years on increasing the visibility of the institute and overcoming the existing limitations caused by lack of information and mistrust on the part of employees and employers, the low visibility of the Republic Agency for Peaceful Resolution of Labor Disputes, etc., which influenced that judicial protection still remains the primary form of protection of employees’ rights. Strengthening the application of the institute for the peaceful resolution of labor disputes contributes to ensuring the realization of social and economic rights in the Republic of Serbia and leads to inclusive access to justice in a faster and more economical way.
